I'm in the middle of the most intense week of my photography career. There is so much going on that I'm kind of spinning. So, I realized that I needed (1) a break and (2) perspective. Making this list accomplished both.
Anyway, I'm sorry it's not fancier this time. However, there is a whole new blog coming soon. I'm stocking up on fancy for that grand unveiling. So hold onto your hats... or whatever is handy to hold onto.The Bruce family.They are my other family. They welcome my mom and I for all major holidays (that involve large meals) and I am extremely grateful for them. We joke about them being my stand-in family. But that’s not true… they’re the real deal. This includes Norma, Milan and Jana, too.
My mom.…who helps me even when she doesn’t like it. And let’s be honest, even when she says she doesn’t, she kind of does. I got her business cards:

Bridget.She’s the nice lady at the Apple store who rocked out last week when I had a frantic, and large, purchase. Those fine folks just get it. Oh, also thankful for my new computer, printer and iPod. I work hard so I can buy cool toys from my new friend, Bridget.

College.I was watching Xavier sh*t the bed last night against Old Dominion and I wasn’t happy, but I was reminded of how much I love that place, my friends and the whole experience. I wouldn’t do it any other way.
Lessons learned.History shows that I’m not the world’s fastest lesson learner, but this year has shown a bit of a change. I’ve learned a lot of lessons this year about my business. Stand by for more greatness.

Having four seasons.No one, and I mean NO ONE, bitches more than me when I’m hot or freezing or my boots get wet. But yesterday, it was 60 degrees and rainy in Indiana. That stuff doesn’t happen everywhere. Days like that make me glad we get a little bit of everything. Or, maybe the world is ending… I hadn’t thought about that until just now.
Lucy Jane.She will make every list. Mostly because she brings me her stuffed frog every single damn time I walk in the door. And every single time, I’m glad to see it. Also, she lets me tie balloons to her.
Evite.If ever a tool was made for someone like me, this is it.
The Facebook.People have a love/hate relationship with the The Facebook. But just now, in a quick 10 second review, I learned that there’s a new blog post by
Jasmine Star (who, by the way, is effing amazing and I want to be her when I grow up), Dubs and her wedding photographer are pregnant, Crystal Grave is having woodpecker problems (not a euphemism), and Chad Dixon ate too many tacos. Seriously, Facebook is a beautiful thing.
And finally, my clients.Seriously, people… you rock. Some of my clients are my besties, and some are complete strangers. You are all lovely. Whether your kids show up in tutus with balloons or cry the whole time, your families amaze me. I’ve learned that some photos just aren’t meant to be posed… and that Skittles go a long way to inspiring great moments by three year olds. My senior photo clients inspire me… what an adventure they’re about to embark on. They have such confidence and are just certain they are going to run the world. They will, I have no doubt. And my wedding clients just rock. It’s like a sociology experiment in how to deal with event planners, mothers of the groom and drunk bridesmaids. There is rarely a toast that doesn’t make me cry… I love every second of it. This, my friends, is a great job.
Speaking of jobs…I am so grateful to have TWO wonderful jobs. The people and projects I get to work on at Washington National keep me sane. We all inspire each other. And we’re better people for working with each other. That combined with my other adventure… well, I’m just a thankful gal this year.
